Description

This training introduces participants to the concept, structure, and purpose of an Anaesthesia Journal Club. It focuses on developing skills in identifying, reading, critically appraising, and discussing scientific literature relevant to anaesthesia and perioperative medicine. Participants learn how journal clubs support evidence-based practice, continuous professional development, clinical decision-making, and research awareness within anaesthesia teams.

Objectives

Define the purpose and role of a journal club in anaesthesia practice. Describe the principles of evidence-based medicine and their application in anaesthesia. Identify appropriate anaesthesia and perioperative research articles for journal club discussions. Apply basic critical appraisal skills to assess the quality, validity, and clinical relevance of published studies. Interpret common research methodologies, statistical results, and study outcomes. Effectively present and discuss scientific articles in a structured journal club setting. Translate relevant research findings into clinical anaesthesia practice where appropriate. Promote a culture of lifelong learning, professional development, and collaborative learning within the anaesthesia team. Recognize the importance of current evidence in improving patient safety and perioperative outcomes. Participate actively in scholarly discussions and provide constructive feedback on presented articles.
