Description
This CME activity provides healthcare professionals with an overview of connective tissue diseases, focusing on their clinical manifestations, diagnostic approaches, and laboratory investigations. It explores the role of autoimmune markers, inflammatory markers, and other relevant laboratory tests in diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic sclerosis, and mixed connective tissue disease. The activity aims to enhance participants’ ability to select and interpret appropriate laboratory tests to support accurate diagnosis and effective patient management.
Objectives
1. Describe the common connective tissue diseases, their clinical manifestations, and underlying autoimmune mechanisms.
2. Identify appropriate laboratory investigations used in the evaluation of connective tissue diseases, including antinuclear antibodies (ANA), extractable nuclear antigens (ENA), rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-CCP antibodies, and inflammatory markers.
3. Interpret laboratory test results in conjunction with clinical findings to support the diagnosis and differentiation of connective tissue diseases.
4. Discuss the role of laboratory testing in monitoring disease activity, assessing treatment response, and identifying potential complications.
